Allergies
An Allergy is the body's immune system overreacting to a substance that is typically not harmful. The immune system perceives this substance as a threat, and defends the body accordingly from this foreign invader.
This Allergic Reaction may be caused by environmental elements such as dust, pollen and grass, to the foods we eat, or even the company we keep including pets and insects. While the symptoms may vary, some individuals may be extremely susceptible to the reactions to the point where the effects may be life threatening.
While these extreme cases are rare, they must be dealt with the utmost care and consideration. More often it is the quality of life that allergy suffers are most interested in; managing their lost workdays, decreased work efficiency, and poor school performance not to mention the increased risk of sinus and respiratory infections.
Louisville is consistently rated one of Americas top allergy cities, finishing as numer 2 in the nation in Bert Sperling's new book "Cities Ranked and Rated" and seventh in the Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America's 2006 Fall Allergy Capital ranking. As specialists in nasal and sinus disease, our physicians understand the importance allergy plays in the greater Louisville area.
We offer comprehensive allergy testing in our office including skin and blood tests for correct diagnosis of allergic disorders. We provide advice on allergy avoidance to minimize symptoms, and treatments including a broad spectrum of medications and immunotherapy in the form of either allergy shots or drops.
